Good Dental Care: It Doesn't Have to Break Your Budget

A Few Signs You Need Emergency Dental Care

Having pain in your mouth is never any fun. Sometimes it is fine to wait until you can make an appointment with your dentist, but sometimes the situation is an emergency and you need to either head to the hospital emergency room or look for emergency dental care services. It would be best to find a dental clinic that will take you in an emergency because often the ER will treat you to keep the problem from getting any worse but will also tell you to see your dentist as soon as possible. An emergency dental clinic can take care of the entire problem for you. Here are a few times you should not wait.

Lost Tooth

If you have some type of accident and have a tooth fall out, it is important to get to a dentist as soon as possible to save it. Take the tooth, put it in a glass of milk, and go to the clinic. A dentist is more likely to be able to put your own tooth back in and have it heal than another type of medical professional.

Abscess

When there is swelling or pain, you probably have a serious infection. This could be around a tooth, in the gums, or anywhere in your mouth or the lower part of your face. Do not wait to get it treated as the infection could travel through the bloodstream to other organs. You may need to have the tooth extracted and start taking antibiotics to get better and stop the infection from spreading and making you extremely ill.

Chip or Crack

Many times, a chip or crack is not an emergency, and you can call to make an appointment with your regular dentist. However, if you are experiencing extreme pain, you should have it looked at right away. If there is a lot of pain, a nerve could be exposed, which means the break is deep enough that bacteria can easily enter the tooth and into the gum, causing infection and even more pain.

If the pain in your mouth is severe, you should not have to endure it while waiting for a dental appointment. If you are not sure whether you should wait for an appointment to go in for emergency services make sure to call your dentist. If they are not open, they should have some type of answering service to give you advice.
